Sustainability
A More Considered Approach to Fashion
We believe that the future of fashion lies in making more considered choices. From the fibres we select to the way our garments are produced, sold and ultimately returned to the material cycle, we consider the impact of each decision. Azhar Lämya is a new brand, launching in 2026. As such, we are at the beginning of our journey and do not yet have years of environmental data to present. Rather than relying on assumptions or broad claims, we are building the foundations to measure our impact properly from the outset. Our first year will establish that baseline. As we grow, we intend to measure our progress, publish our findings and continually refine the way we work. Our approach is simple: make thoughtfully, produce responsibly, measure honestly and improve continuously.
Made to Demand
Our collections are produced 100% through pre-order. Rather than manufacturing significant quantities in anticipation of demand, we produce in response to confirmed orders. This considered approach allows us to minimise excess production and avoid unnecessary finished inventory. We believe that responsible production begins with understanding what is genuinely needed. We make what is wanted, rather than making more simply to sell more
Beyond the Fashion Calendar
We do not design around the traditional seasonal fashion cycle. Our collections are introduced through considered drops, rather than seasonal releases designed to encourage continual wardrobe replacement. Our pieces are intended to exist beyond a single season, designed with longevity, versatility and enduring relevance in mind. For the same reason, we do not participate in consumption-led events such as Black Friday. We believe value should be found in the quality, design and longevity of a garment, rather than in creating urgency around a temporary reduction in price. Our intention is to encourage a more considered relationship with clothing: buy less, choose well and wear for longer.
Material Integrity
Material selection is fundamental to our approach. Our collections incorporate natural fibres and recycled materials, while we avoid synthetic fibres such as polyester wherever possible. Where appropriate, we favour single-fibre materials, considering their potential for simpler separation and recycling at the end of a garment's useful life. We work with GOTS-certified and OEKO-TEX® certified materials where suitable, and selected fabrics are coloured using natural dyes. We recognise that no material is without impact. Our decisions therefore consider more than fibre composition alone. We look at origin, certification, durability, manufacturing processes and end-of-life potential when assessing materials for our collections. Our objective is not to select materials simply because they carry a sustainability label. It is to understand their story, their impact and their potential beyond their first use.
Made in the UK
Every Azhar Lämya garment is made in the United Kingdom. Producing locally allows us to work closely with our manufacturing partners, support skilled craftsmanship and keep our production closer to our market. Where suitable materials and components are available, we prioritise sourcing from the UK and European Union. We recognise that a truly local supply chain is not currently possible for every material or component. Our commitment is therefore one of continuous improvement: to understand our supply chain more deeply and increase regional sourcing wherever practical.
Traceability
We believe transparency should extend beyond the finished garment. Our long-term objective is to understand the journey of each piece from fibre to final product, including the materials, mills, dyeing and finishing processes, manufacturing and transportation involved along the way. As our traceability system develops, we intend to introduce QR codes with our garments, giving customers access to the story and provenance of their individual piece.
The ambition is to make the journey of a garment visible:
Fibre → Fabric → Dyeing & Finishing → Manufacturing → Garment
And, ultimately:
Garment → Repair → Reuse → Upcycling → Recycling
We believe knowing where something comes from is an essential part of knowing its value.
Our Material Principles
We are developing a formal material policy to guide our collections and provide a clear framework for future sourcing. Our principles are centred around:
Natural and recycled fibres
Prioritising materials that reduce our reliance on virgin, fossil-fuel-derived resources.
Reduced use of synthetics
Avoiding polyester wherever possible and carefully considering the necessity of synthetic components.
Single-fibre construction
Favouring simpler fibre compositions where appropriate, with future recyclability in mind.
Recognised standards
Selecting certified materials where relevant, including GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified fabrics.
Material longevity
Considering durability alongside environmental credentials. A material that enables a garment to remain in use for longer has an important role to play in a more responsible fashion system.
End-of-life potential
Considering what may happen to a material after its first life, rather than focusing solely on its origin.
Our material policy will continue to evolve alongside new technologies, improved materials and a deeper understanding of their environmental impact.
Designed for Longevity
We believe longevity is one of the most meaningful forms of sustainability. A garment that remains relevant, well cared for and worn repeatedly can avoid the environmental impact associated with replacing it. Our collections are therefore designed to move beyond short-lived trends, with an emphasis on considered design, quality materials and lasting relevance. We also believe that our responsibility extends beyond the point of purchase. In 2027, we intend to introduce repair, recycling and upcycling services, helping customers extend the life of their garments and giving materials opportunities for further use.
Towards Circularity
The end of a garment's first life should not necessarily be the end of its story. From 2027, our planned services will include:
Repair
Extending the useful life of garments and helping customers continue to wear pieces they value.
Upcycling
Giving existing garments and materials a new purpose through creative transformation.
Recycling
Recovering materials where a garment can no longer reasonably be repaired or worn.
We are also exploring a take-back programme, through which Azhar Lämya garments could be returned to us and assessed for their next best use.
Our long-term ambition is to create a more circular relationship with our products:
Make → Wear → Repair → Reuse → Upcycle → Recycle
Responsible Production
Environmental responsibility extends throughout our production network. We ask our manufacturing partners to provide information relating to production, energy use, transportation, packaging, fabric waste, waste management and relevant certifications. Where possible, unused fabrics and suitable offcuts are returned to us for potential reuse or future upcycling. As our production grows, we will continue to develop our supplier requirements and improve our understanding of the environmental and social conditions throughout our supply chain. We believe responsible production depends upon meaningful relationships, transparency and accountability.
Measuring What Matters
We believe meaningful progress requires measurement. As a new business, our first year will provide the foundation for our environmental baseline. We are currently building the systems required to collect relevant information across our production and supply chain rather than relying on assumptions. This includes data relating to:
Materials and fibre composition
Production
Energy use
Transportation
Packaging
Fabric utilisation and waste
Manufacturing processes
Supply-chain activity
Once sufficient data has been established, our ambition is to publish an annual impact report, allowing us to demonstrate our progress, identify areas for improvement and remain accountable to the commitments we make. Our intention is to replace broad sustainability claims with measurable progress and transparent reporting.
Our Carbon Ambition
Our long-term climate ambition extends beyond achieving carbon neutrality. Our first priority is to reduce the emissions associated with our business and supply chain as far as possible. As our first-year data establishes a reliable baseline, we will be able to identify the areas where reductions can have the greatest impact and develop a more detailed carbon-reduction strategy. Beyond reduction, our ambition is to work towards removing more carbon from the atmosphere than our business produces. We recognise the important distinction between reducing emissions, avoiding emissions and removing carbon from the atmosphere. Our intention is to support credible climate initiatives based on the type of climate benefit they demonstrably provide, rather than treating all forms of carbon finance as equivalent.
We believe the long-term objective should be twofold: reduce what we emit and contribute to the removal of atmospheric carbon.
Our Sustainability Roadmap
- 2026 - Establishing the Foundations
- 2027 - Extending the Life of Every Garment
- Beyond 2027
A Commitment to Continuous Improvement
We do not view sustainability as a finished achievement. The fashion industry is complex, and every material, process and supply chain carries its own considerations. Our responsibility is to understand those impacts, make informed decisions and continue to improve.
Where we have data, we will share it.
Where we are still developing a solution, we will say so.
Where better alternatives become available, we will consider them.
And as our understanding grows, our standards will evolve with it. For Azhar Lämya, sustainability is ultimately about consideration. Consideration for the materials we use, the people who make our garments, the resources required to produce them, the customers who wear them and the world they remain part of long after they leave our studio.
